Ritchie Blackmore valitsi Bonnetin korvaamaan Rainbow-yhtyeen solistin Ronnie James Dion. Bonnetin nousu Rainbown solistiksi vuonna 1979 johti kahteen suureen hittiin 1980-luvun alussa. Albumilta Down To Earth nousi hittikappaleet Since You Been Gone ja All Night Long.
